Foundation Honors Veterans at Wreaths Across America Event

Foundation Vice President Charlie Inot, who served in Special Forces, lays a wreath at the monument honoring the U.S. Army Special Forces Regiment.

Miramar National Cemetery Support Foundation Vice President Charlie Inot and Secretary Sallay Kim participated in the Wreaths Across America event, Dec. 15, to honor veterans buried at Miramar National Cemetery.

Inot and Kim, both Army veterans, paid tribute to Army Sgt. Charles Schroeter, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for gallantry during the Indian Wars in 1869.  Sgt. Schroeter’s remains are buried in Section 3, grave 1052.

(Nov. 11, 2018) A bright orange sun was setting above Miramar National Cemetery as an audience of some 150 veterans, active duty military and family members gathered to honor those who fought and died in World War I. Service will commemorate 1918 WWI Armistice, sacrifices of POWs

 

Veterans, active duty service members, and members of the public are invited to attend a commemorative service at 3:30 p.m., on Veterans’ Day, Sunday, Nov. 11, at Miramar National Cemetery.

It was a special day of remembrance at Miramar National Cemetery, 27 May, as veterans and their families, active duty members, and the public gathered to pay their respects to those who lie at rest in the “Garden of Heroes”.

New Flags for Avenue of Flags

Avenue of Flags Refreshed with 50 New Flags

(May 1, 2018) All 50 American flags on the Avenue of Flags at Miramar National Cemetery were recently replaced with brand new ones in a process that’s repeated several times a year.

The patriotic display, sponsored and maintained by the Miramar National Cemetery Support Foundation, has been flying since 28 January 2012 along the cemetery’s main street.

Periodically changing the flags keeps the display looking fresh, and honors the memory of the more than 12,000 veterans and family members interred at the cemetery. The Foundation also maintains the flagpole mechanisms and 24-hour …

The rainy weather, March 17, didn’t keep some 70 veterans and members of the public from attending the dedication of a monument at Miramar National Cemetery honoring members of the Armed Forces who have earned the Parachutist Badge – Silver Wings – of the American paratrooper.

Wreaths Across America Lays 21,000 Wreaths at

Fort Rosecrans, Miramar National Cemeteries

A large turnout of volunteers lent their hands and hearts to the annual Wreaths Across America event, Dec. 16, placing some 21,000 holiday decorations on gravesites at San Diego’s veterans’ cemeteries. Of those, 8,100 wreaths were distributed at Miramar National Cemetery.

The volunteers included members of veterans’ organizations, active duty personnel, and members of youth and civic groups. The event was coordinated by cemetery Director Rex Kern and the cemetery staff, and members of the Wreaths Across America Foundation.
