POW Memorial

The Liberation Monument was made by sculptor Richard Becker and was dedicated on Sept. 16, 2011. It stands near the entrance of Miramar National Cemetery (to the left as you enter). It honors the sacrifice of veterans captured during America's foreign wars. The Miramar National Cemetery Support Foundation worked together with the local Ex-Prisoners of War Chapter 1 on this project. The Monument is a 15-foot-tall figurative composition of a bronze soldier and POW flag atop a concrete base emerging from captivity. The Ex-Prisoners of War held a 10-year anniversary ceremony in the Fall of 2021.
