New Flags for Avenue of Flags

Avenue of Flags Refreshed with 50 New Flags

(May 1, 2018) All 50 American flags on the Avenue of Flags at Miramar National Cemetery were recently replaced with brand new ones in a process that’s repeated several times a year.

The patriotic display, sponsored and maintained by the Miramar National Cemetery Support Foundation, has been flying since 28 January 2012 along the cemetery’s main street.

Periodically changing the flags keeps the display looking fresh, and honors the memory of the more than 12,000 veterans and family members interred at the cemetery. The Foundation also maintains the flagpole mechanisms and 24-hour lighting system.

The new flags were purchased from Sunward Flag of San Diego, which conducted the recent flag change-out. Old flags are donated to patriotic and civic organizations, or may be sold at local military museums.
